A meaningful visual identity rooted in connection,
culture, and collective growth.
The Challenge
Mizizi needed an identity that would reflect the experiences and values of its members
while feeling distinct, meaningful, and connected to the group’s larger purpose. The design needed to celebrate Black culture and community without relying on visual clichés, and it had to translate naturally across both internal communications and merchandise.
The Approach
The concept was shaped around the meaning of “mizizi”—roots in Swahili—
and the idea that strong communities grow through shared history, support, and connection. I used that foundation to create an identity that feels grounded and contemporary, with visual details that represent individual stories coming together as one collective voice.

The Impact
The final identity gives Mizizi a clear, visual presence they can own that reflects pride,
belonging, and connection. More than a logo, it creates a shared symbol the group can use to
strengthen recognition and bring its community together.
