A commemorative event graphic celebrating 20 years of
movement across one of Michigan’s most recognizable landmarks.

The Challenge

The 20th anniversary of the Labor Day Mackinac Bridge Run called for artwork that felt celebratory,
specific to the occasion, and immediately connected to the event. The design needed to feature the bridge as the central landmark while remaining versatile enough for a commemorative poster, race shirt,
and additional merchandise.

The Approach

I created custom full-color and black-and-white graphics that bring together the movement of the run, the scale of the Mackinac Bridge, and the significance of the anniversary. The composition was designed to feel energetic and collectible, giving participants a visual reminder of an experience unique to Michigan.

The Impact

The 20th-anniversary artwork became the visual foundation for the official race shirt, commemorative poster, and a new print-on-demand store featuring a broad collection of official merchandise. Created for an event that began with about 300 runners and is now capped at 700 participants, the system extended the milestone beyond race day and gave past and present runners, families, and Mackinac Bridge fans new ways to commemorate the experience. Michigan Fitness Foundation also featured the creative process and design details in its public launch announcement.
